BAJA 1000 2009

BAJA 1000 2009

BOB'S QUADS entered into world class racing for 2009, preparing this 2008 Honda TRX700xx for the 2009 BAJA 1000.

Among the modifications to were ELKA shocks, Precision steering stabilizer, Baja Designs HID lights, Maxxis tires, ITP Baja wheels, and Pro Armor nerf bars and skid plates.

Special thanks goes to AFE Air Filters for protecting the engine with just ONE air filter.

Our start time was at 7:00 AM on Friday morning. Maverick Bartlett took the number 7A from Encenada Mexico for the first leg of the race.

From here, we drove all over the northern part of the Baja peninsula as our own support crew.

Our day was just beginning.

Ben Bartlett, Maverick's father, takes the second leg of the race. At this point, the track is fast. Speeds of up to 80 MPH were possible with the gearing and the strong Honda 686cc engine.

I took over the number 7A Honda for the last leg of the race.

At this point, the TRX700xx was a little beat up. It had been flipped a few times, the nerf bars were bent, the front tires were flat, and the skid plates were worn to nothing.

It still ran like brand new. Thanks Mr. Honda!

The coat is Maverick's. It may not have matched, but sure kept me warm for the early morning dash back to Encenada.

I crossed the finish line at 27:56:04 hours from the start of the race.

We placed 5th in Class 25, Pro ATV.

The team included, from left to right: Terry Porter (chase vehicle driver), and riders Austin Porter, Bob Hatton (myself), Aaron Miller, Ben Bartlett, and Maverick Bartlett.

As the first ever Baja 1000 race for all of us, "Team Old School" proved that sheer determination can go a long way toward beating the odds.

About half of the entries did not finish the race.

And finally, a very special thanks to the people at BAJA JAVA, a resturant just north of San Felipe.

Our taste buds were treated with every bite of thier american style breakfast, and coffee that nothing has yet to compare to.

Pictured here is Manuel and Karen.

Thank you Manuel for the special delivery, you're a life saver!
